Created in 2011 by Georges Chazel, Georgy is the result of a passion for the Berber culture and its craftsmanship. Each pair is handmade by Moroccan artisans, respecting local traditions and is unique using anciant Kilim, Handira and Hanbel, unearthed in the Moroccan Atlas.
Who are you?
Georges Chazel, 42 years old, I created the brand in 2011.
How did you start in fashion?
While travelling in Morocco, I became aware that the local know-how and the richness of the materials I was discovering were transferrable to fashion in France and other places.
What inspires you?
The incredible variety of the Berber weavings, full of underlying signification and symbols. To know that behind a traditional weaving there is a human story. The people I meet while going over the world, the perpetual discoveries of know-how, of materials that you find in these countries.
A few words about this collection...
It's an experimental collection, I had leather woven very tight so that it is waterproof, and the leather is dyed with naturals pigments. It breaks a little with the concept of highly colorful and graphic boots. It's also allows me to make small series, for each pair of boots is unique.
What's your favorite piece in our selection?
What are you most proud of?
When my clients feel they are weaving "living" boots which have a sense.
Where do you manufacture your products?
In Morocco so far, I dream of "Made in France", because our leathers are incredible and so is our know-how. A day will come...
If your brand was a music, a movie, a cocktail...
It would be one of the 3 Js, Jim, Janis, or Jimi, well, ladies first, it would be " Maybe" by Janis Joplin. As for the film, it would be " Lawrence of Arabia" with Peter O Toole. A champagne ratafia.
